Applying to a school or a university is not easy. Do you know what you want from your course, what is right for you? How to apply for a Student Visa? Here is some information for you to make your decision with no regret.
SECONDARY SCHOOL
UK Boarding schools are the private schools which help international students to progress to university. Their system is split into three levels: primary education (age 11-13), secondary education (age 14-16), and sixth form (age 16-18). Most students take GCSE, A-levels, or the International Baccalaureate to meet the entry requirements of university.
UCAS
It is the centralised online system for university applications. Students are allowed to choose up to five courses from different universities. In the application, you will need to prepare for a personal statement, the information about your education and work experience, as well as references from a school or college.
UNIVERSITY
Universities in the UK (except Scotland) offer 3-year programmes for honoured degree; however, some of the specialised degrees with professional qualifications, such as medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, and architecture, require a 4 or 5 years of undergraduate study. All of the applicants have to apply for university through the UCAS.
RANKING
To have a better career prospect, students usually choose their courses according to the national and international rankings of universities in the UK, including Times Higher Education World University Rankings, The Guardian University Guide, QS World University Rankings, and The Complete University Guide.
COSTS OF STUDYING
International undergraduate tuition fees vary considerably (From GBP10,000 to GBP38,000/year). The total average cost of studying in the UK is estimated to be at least GBP22,200/year. While studying in London is significantly more expensive, Cardiff, Aberdeen, and Durham are the most affordable cities for students in the UK.
EMPLOYABILITY
According to THE Global University Employability Ranking 2017, there are 6 UK universities placed in the Top 50: University of Cambridge (5), University of Oxford (15), Imperial College London (17), King's College London (25), University of Manchester (34), London School of Economics and Political Science (46), UCL (49).
IELTS TEST
IELTS tests is an English language qualification that is necessary for visa applications to the UK. The score requirement varies, depending upon specific courses in different institutions. However, the minimum requirement for a Tier 4 student visa for a bachelor or postgraduate degree is 5.5 overall and for each component.
TB TEST and FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Students who are planning on studying in the UK are required to have a tuberculosis (TB) test at a UK-approved screening clinic if they are coming to the UK for more than 6 months. The clinician will give you a certificate, which is valid for 6 months from the date of the x-ray, to send with your UK visa application.
CAS
Once the institution has offered you a place on a course, you will receive a reference number called Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from them, which is valid for 6 months, for your visa application. Students who have studied in the UK before are also required to enter it on their application.
